You can use your iTunes gift card for a couple of different things, some of which you may not have thought about yet.

But one thing is for sure: an iTunes gift card provides you options for great entertainment no matter how you use it.

Besides spending your gift card at the iTunes store, you can also use your iTunes gift card in the App Store and Apple Music.

Load it onto your Apple ID account or to a specific app, and you can start using it to pay for apps, music, movies, books, and a load of other things.

Let's get started by learning how to redeem your iTunes Gift Card.

How to Redeem iTunes Gift Card

The first step to using your iTunes gift card is learning how to redeem it. Follow these steps to input your iTunes gift card into your iOS device:

  1. Find the 16-digit code on the back of your iTunes gift card. The code should start with the letter X.
  2. Open the App Store.
  3. Tap "Today" on the menu at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap your profile's icon in the top-right corner to open the "Account" page.
  5. Tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code."
  6. You can either use your camera to scan the 16-digit code or enter it manually.
  7. Tap "Redeem" in the top-right corner once you have the code.

If you're on your Mac device, begin by following these steps instead:

  1. Find the 16-digit code on the back of your iTunes gift card. The code should start with the letter X.
  2. Open the App Store.
  3. Click your account profile in the bottom-left corner of the window to open the "Account" page.
  4. Click "Redeem Gift Card" in the top-right corner.
  5. You can either use your camera to scan the 16-digit code or enter it manually.

Now that you've redeemed your iTunes gift card, learn how to use it! You can either spend it on the iTunes Store, App Store, or Apple Music Subscription.

iTunes Store

As the name suggests, the iTunes gift card is designed for usage in Apple's iTunes store.

The iTunes store is where you can buy your favorite content, all for you to keep. From movies to TV shows to music, you'll be able to purchase them and have them stored in your iTunes library. From there, you can access them even if you're offline.

Once you've redeemed your iTunes gift card, you'll be able to use to pay for iTunes content directly through the iTunes store's payment interface.

Be careful, though, because you can only make full payments through the iTunes gift card. You may only have a little bit of money left over that won't be available for use if you don't plan out your purchases well enough.

Otherwise, the iTunes store is the first and best place to use your iTunes gift card. With millions of movies, songs, TV shows, and more, you won't have any problem spending your iTunes gift card's balance.

App Store

The second place you might look is the App Store. Here, with millions of apps, there's something for everyone. Whether you want to buy a new game or get the premium version of a fitness app, the App Store has got you covered.

App Store and iTunes gift cards are interchangeable. As long as you have linked your iTunes gift card to your Apple ID, you'll be able to use it for App Store purchases.

To spend your iTunes gift card on the App Store, tap the "Buy" option. The "Buy" button is usually displaying the App's cost. Next, pay with Apple Pay's Touch ID.

Usually, Apple defaults to the iTunes gift card on your account for payment before using the credit card on file. But still, on the Apple Pay menu, double-check to see if the correct payment method is being used.

You can also use the iTunes gift card for in-app purchases. Again, Apple will usually default to your iTunes gift card before charging your personal card. But as always, check before you pay to make sure the gift card is being used unless the payment exceeds the gift card's amount.

Apple Music

If you have an Apple Music subscription, you can use the iTunes gift card to pay for the subscription fee.

Suppose you already have an Apple Music subscription. If that's the case, don't link it to your Apple ID just yet; there's a better way to do this. To use your iTunes gift card for Apple Music, begin by following these steps:

  1. Open the Music app and tap "Listen Now."
  2. Tap the profile icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap "Redeem Gift Card or Code."
  4. Scan the code with your camera or enter it manually.
  5. Tap "Redeem" in the top-right corner when you're done.

Until the iTunes gift card's balance runs out or is too low to make a payment, Apple will charge the gift card before charging your own card on-file.

If you don't have an Apple Music subscription yet, but want to try it out with your iTunes gift card, then link the gift card to your Apple ID first. The best part of using Apple Music is its free 3-month trial.

After your first three months, Apple Music will charge the gift card until its balance runs out. Then, you'll have to pay with your own card.
