The Atlantic City Excited About After-school Programs

The Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City are re-imagining after-school programs after the Apple announcement.

The partnership particularly concerns the Boys & Girls Clubs' new technology labs which focus on STEAM- science, technology, engineering, art, and math in addition to design and career development.

Apple will be providing the labs with a total of 2,500 devices in iPads and Mac computers that come equipped with STEAM programming.

Everyone Can Code, Everyone Can Create and Develop in Swift are the names of Apple programs that helped create the curricula for STEAM and Design Labs.

Younger students in the STEAM Lab program will take on the basics of coding before programming their own robots!

While older students in the Design Lab tackle graphic design to int turn work with Atlantic City restaurants and shops to design signs and logos.

Stephanie Koch, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, said,

By refocusing on STEAM, we’re arming children with critical thinking, creative expression, and problem-solving skills that can be used in the future. We want this to serve as the scaffolding for them to climb to a better tomorrow.

Taking off in the Atlantic City New Jersey, the Apple hardware will be seen working across club locations in Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin.
