Final Cut Pro X Now Has Updated Workflow Upgrades

Apple finally releases an update to Final Cut Pro X that includes enhanced workflow features to assist designers throughout their creative process.

The workflow improvements include "enhancements to proxy workflows, automated tools for social media cropping, editorial workflow improvements, and updates to motion and compressor."

Since the beginning of the pandemic, content creators are working at home more than before. With the Final Cut Pro X updates, the changes will make the editing process more efficient than before.

Proxy Workflow

Apple Newsroom

Apple shares that the "enhanced proxy workflows" will give content creators remote access "across a wide range of locations." The "more portable and streamline remote work" gives users access to their "large, high-resolution files" without delay:

"For the first time within Final Cut Pro, video editors can create proxies in either ProRes PRoxy or H.264 in dimensions as small as 12.5% of the original.

They can also consolidate proxy media, images, and audio to an external or network-connected drive. A Final Cut Pro Library can even be relinked to proxies already created for added flexibility."

Social Media Cropping

Video creatives can also save time clipping content for social media now that Apple added 'Smart Convert' to Final Cut Pro X. Users can "convert [the footage] into a square, vertical or any other sized video—perfect for popular platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter."

Content creators can take a step further by adding Custom Overlays to personalize other text and graphics on a "non-landscape frame."

Editorial Workflow Upgrades

Apple also added "ProRes RAW camera settings, such as ISO, color temperature and exposure offset exposed in the inspector for the first time." These updated features give video editors more creative freedom to bring their vision to life in their projects.

Creative can also look forward to stabilizing 360-degree videos. Other upgrades include "improvements with new Metal-enabled plug-ins for RED RAW and Canon Cinema RAW Light." In addition, the "Transcoding 8K RED RAW video to ProRes 422 is up to two times faster on Mac Pro, and up to three times faster on MacBook Pro."
