Today, Microsoft made the announcement through the official Edge Insider Twitter account:

The update invited users to download the new version for their Macs from the Microsoft Edge Canary Channel. The canary channel is an important subsection from which browsers can be downloaded.

Missing from the announcement was Microsoft's clarification on the performance improvements of the new version of the Edge browser but overall offered something exciting for Microsoft and Apple users to look forward to downloading and finding out for themselves.

The M1 chip is the first chip designed especially for Macs. The first-ever Apple-designed processing chip is built on a 5nm semiconductor and houses 16 billion transistors. The chip was launched in November of this year and can be found within MacBook Air, Mac mini, and the MacBook Pro.

Apple claims that the chip has the world's fastest CPU core and the world's best CPU performance per watt.
