Your Apple Watch can now measure your electrocardiogram (ECG) waves.
According to the developer documentation for iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2, the new algorithm is designed to help users monitor their heart health!
ECG Feature Detects for Serious Heart Conditions
Under developer.apple.com, official documentation declaring a new "version 2 algorithm" has been added.
The ECG reading is generated by the HKAppleECGAlgorithmVersion enumeration. The newest version 2 algorithm falls under this enumeration.
The ECG feature in Apple Watch includes irregular heart rhythm detection. This feature is particularly neat in how it intermittently measures the user's heart rate and sends the user notification if it detects an anomaly that can be categorized as atrial fibrillation.
Through the ECG feature, detecting atrial fibrillation can prevent long term delays in getting medical treatment for a potentially serious heart arrhythmia condition.
