Next Apple TV Model In The Works? Apple TV App And Remote Updates

Ryan Anand

The Apple TV is one of the least talked about devices in Apple's news for the past couple of months. With everyone's attention on the new Apple Watch Series 6, Apple

Watch SE, iPad Air, iPad (8th-gen.), HomePod mini, and iPhone 12s, the Apple TV hides in the backgrounds with its latest updates.

Besides the tvOS update, Apple TV users can look forward to the upcoming plans for the next Apple TV model and Apple TV app joining Playstation 4 (PS4) and Playstation 5 (PS5) systems.

Before we dive into the details for that news, let's take a look at what's happening to the Apple TV Remote app.

Apple TV Remote App removed from App Store

The Apple TV remote app was recently removed from the App Store earlier this week. The Apple TV remote app was designed to help users control their Apple TV from an iPhone or iPad.

The main difference between the Apple TV remote app and the included Apple TV remote is the touchscreen interface on your iPhones and iPads compared to the buttons on the traditional remote.

While the reason for the removal of the Apple TV remote app is unclear, we can expect Apple has a plan for this choice.

When the Apple Watch Series 5 sold out on Apple's online store, Apple did not restock this model. Instead, Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 6 and SE weeks later. If Apple replicates this again, we could expect to see a new Apple TV remote app or a replacement of some sort.

While the Apple TV remote app details are speculative, the regular Apple TV app is confirmed to be arriving at Sony's Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 systems.

Apple TV app for PS4 and PS5

As mentioned on Sony's blog, the Apple TV app will be joining the PS4 and PS5 systems soon. Apple TV users who also use the PS4 or the upcoming PS5 can enjoy all the perks from Apple TV and their Playstation all in one place.

Enjoy Apple TV+, Apple TV channels, new and popular movies, and personalized, curated recommendations on the Apple TV app. That means users can enjoy Apple Originals like Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet, Ted Lasso, and The Morning Show through Apple TV+, subscribe to premium channels, and buy or rent movies and TV shows and access past purchases from Apple. The Apple TV app will also be available on PS4.

Playstation users can also enjoy other applications including Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch, and YouTube on the new PS5. Having these options will give the PS5 an advantage over Xbox consoles this year.

According to the latest news, the Apple TV app will be added on the same day the PS 5 is launched on November 12, 2020.

Future Apple TV models to feature A12 and A14 Chips

Now that Apple released a new iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and HomePod device, the next products to get an update are the Macs, AirPods, and, most importantly, Apple TV.

The latest leak, from Fudge (@choco_bit), about the next Apple TV model reveals details about Apple's plans to use the A12 and A14 chips.

Fudge shared that "Apple Arcade is getting BIG money poured into it." Apple Arcade is one of the main applications used on the Apple TV as there is more display space to play multiplayer games—and the screen is bigger!

Fudge further adds that "there are currently titles in the works that are aiming to rival the likes of Breath of the Wild, which is why new A12X/Z Apple TV, "A14-like" Apple TV, and Controller are in the works."

Fudge adds at the end that some of the Apple Arcade games will require the A13 processing chip or newer to operate. If this is true, we can expect one of the newest chips in the next Apple TV model.

Until these details are confirmed, we will most likely not hear anything about the Apple TV until next year, according to renowned Apple leaker Jon Prosser.
