Twitter is set to bring back its account verification requests in early 2021, says the official company blog.
Set to bring back the account verification requests with a new set of guidelines, Twitter asks users to help shape their new approach to verification.
The Little Check By Your Name
To be verified on Twitter is classified as a mode of identification expression for users and followers to know exactly who they are interacting with.
The way to identify whether someone is verified on Twitter is to look for a small little tick (blue cloud with a white check) beside someone's username.
According to Buffer, the steps to become verified on Twitter used to be as follows:
- Update your profile with correct and current information.
- Verify a phone number and email address.
- Fill out the form requesting consideration as a verified user.
Twitter Calls on Public to Draft New Policy
Three years ago, Twitter paused their public verification program. This decision came in response to user feedback claiming that the program felt confusing to the lot.
Now, Twitter is calling on users to help draft the new verification policy. Twitter hopes that:
"This policy will lay the foundation for future improvements by defining what verification means, who is eligible for verification and why some accounts might lose verification to ensure the process is more equitable.
To start the new verification policy, Twitter has identifying six core types of Notable Accounts as:
- Companies, Brands, and Non- Profit Organizations
- Activists, Organizers, and Other Influential Individuals
Your account will not be verified if it is not active and notable. You can provide your feedback on this matter through Twitter's brief survey. You can also tweet your feedback using the hashtag #VerificationFeedback.
